1. I would like my three children to take tennis lessons for 4 weeks. Do I need both a GRBA membership and a tennis membership to do this?
You do not need a tennis membership, only a GRBA annual membership for tennis lessons. However, if any family members want to use the tennis courts at times other than lesson or tournaments, a tennis membership is required.
2. My children will be staying with their grandparents for two weeks this summer. Do they fall under my parents’ membership? If my husband and I want to use the tennis courts, do we also fall under my parents’ membership?
Your children fall under your parents’ membership provided that they have signed up for a “retired with grandchildren” annual membership. If the children want to play on the courts outside of lessons or tournaments, the grandparents need to have a “retired with grandchildren” tennis membership as well. The answer to the second part of your question is not clear as the GRBA Board has not established policy on this matter. If the parents will use the courts regularly, it seems only fair that they have their own annual membership and tennis membership or pay the visitor fee each time they use the court. However, if the parents use the courts only once or twice a summer and the grandparents have a tennis membership, then this occasional use is currently tolerated. Please remember that the Goose Rocks Beach Association is a charitable organization that sponsors many activities that benefit the GRB community. Without enough annual memberships and tennis memberships, some activities will have to be discontinued and the tennis facilities cannot be properly maintained. The Board wants to maintain the relaxed atmosphere we currently enjoy and avoid establishing a whole series of inflexible rules. However, you need to ask yourself how often you use the tennis courts and whether you and your family are truly paying your fair share.
3. If I do not have a GRBA membership and a tennis membership, am I allowed to use the tennis courts when no lessons or tournaments are going on?
You may use the courts only if you pay the current hourly use rate. Please check with the Director or staff about current rates and payment. Only members may reserve court time.
4. I am a single guy and would like to play in the Men’s Round Robin. Do I need a membership for this?
No, but you must pay the current hourly use rate.
5. Is there a way to use the tennis courts if I am not currently a member?
Please see the answer to question 3.
6. I am a grandparent and parent and would like my three children and their families (my grandchildren) to have association and tennis memberships for four weeks. What are the costs associated with this?
Please refer to the answer to question 2 and the rates listed on the membership application form.
7. I would like to have my two children participate in the children’s morning activities for one week. How do I sign up and will I need a GRBA membership to do this?
You will need a GRBA membership. Currently, the shortest membership period offered is two weeks which you will be required to have. However, there is still a one week rate for the children’s morning activities. You may sign up on the membership application form, but still must come by on the first day of your child’s attendance to complete the necessary emergency and medical information forms. Please remember that if your child may need medication during the morning activities, a responsible adult must accompany the child. We cannot give any medications to children participating in the program.
8. We want to rent the Community House for a family function. Must I be a member to do so? Is there a discount for members?
Please contact the Director for information about the rates for and conditions of rentals.
9. My children do not play tennis, but enjoy movie and bingo nights. Do we need to be a member to participate in these programs?
You need not have a membership to have children participate in these programs. However, if you are not accompanying your children in these activities, please see the person in charge to provide information on where you can be reached in an emergency and any relevant medical information about your child. Once again, we ask you to think about what is fair. If your children are regularly attending, we would appreciate your annual membership. Without sufficient annual memberships, it will be impossible for the association to continue to sponsor these activities.
10. I would like to be a sponsor of the GRBA road race. Whom do I contact?
Please contact the director at least two weeks before the race. You can do this by leaving a message on the Community House phone.
11. I would like to use the GRBA boat ramp on and off throughout the summer. What is the cost associated with this?
If you are an association member, there is no charge. If you are not a member, there is a $25 fee per use. Failure to pay the fee could result in a trespassing charge.
12. I notice that there is a different fee schedule for retired and single. I am both retired and single. What category do I use?
Please use the category that is of most benefit to you.
13. I would like to invite non-members to play tennis with me at the Community House. Is there an additional charge for this?
Yes, non-members must pay the current hourly court use fee. Please consult the director or staff for rate and payment information.
14. We will have my nephew staying with us for two weeks. Will he fall under our membership or will his family need to have their own?
Once again, the Board has not established policy on this situation. To be fair to other members, we recommend that his family have their own membership.
15. If I am GRBA member, will there be discounts for the special events that the association sponsors?
The Board is currently considering policy on this subject. Please consult with the director once you arrive at the beach.
